SACRILEGE
In November 2021, I competed with a group of friends as a Character Designer in the Jam-O-Lantern 2021 game development contest hosted by Northeastern, Emerson College, Berklee College, and Becker College

Sacrilege is a zombie survival game with a twist. Players, or "Sinners," are placed at the bottom of hell defeating monsters on each floor to prove their worthiness in heaven. Combat revolves around a card system that controls special abilities.

Brainstorming
My group and I began this project by holding several meetings brainstorming game possibilities with the theme "curse," given to us prior to the competition. Together we developed our game idea.
Class Systems
Together, we developed three class types: Crusader, Carpenter, and Priest, and agreed on a 16x16 bit sprite size and a top-down perspective. Much of my influence for character design came from my childhood games, Pokemon being my main influence. I used Aseprite to design the main playable sprites.
Designing Enemy Sprites
Enemies were also created using 16bit. The challenge with the enemies was developing a variety of enemies of all sizes with unique abilities. This has a large impact on gameplay as it affects the hitbox sizes. With our leveling system, enemies needed to get stronger the higher up you go in the game, impacting the design of each enemy.

Troubleshooting with Game Mechanics
Although I was not involved with work within Unity, I was in direct contact with our engineers. Often times we would discuss balancing issues within the game that may lead to changes in enemies' designs and abilities. Here is some photos of gameplay with the sprites active.
